“The faster you learn the rules of the game, the smarter you get at handling them”

Describe an average day at SupportBee.

An average day at SupportBee is a little different from what you would expect because we have a distributed setup. I work from San Diego and my team members are spread across India, Colombia, Romania and Bolivia. Our work days start and end with Flowdock the chat tool that we use for internal communication. Flowdock is our virtual work space and that is where we build our camaraderie.

As a startup founder/ marketer, what are some of your favorite productivity hacks?

I use the Pomodoro technique to make sure I am accountable for every half hour of my work day. Even if I end up reading news or going through Facebook, the Pomodoro timer makes sure I am not lost for more than 25 minutes.

As a person who is wellversed with online marketing, I’m sure you rely on a few marketing tools to automate your efforts. What are the top 35 tools you use?

We use Buffer for managing Social media publishing and the Crowdfire app for managing Twitter follows.

Your company has a growing community of users. How do you use this treasure trove of customer insight to power your marketing efforts?

This question is especially pertinent at this point for SupportBee because we recently conducted an exhaustive study of our customers and how they use our product. This information clubbed with the numbers from Mixpanel has helped us make some important decisions not only about marketing but also about the product roadmap. Customer insights help us decide what use cases we should be covering in our blogs and what features we should be highlighting on our product site for better conversion.

What is your strategy for getting people to your site and then converting them to a customer?

We are currently focusing on adding value to our existing customers and prospects by publishing content that will help them with every aspect of managing their customer support efforts. SupportBee is built to help teams collaborate over email. Converting prospects to customers is a matter of helping them understand that value proposition. We are constantly tweaking our communication on the site to deliver this message better.

Is there any advice you’d like to give to budding startup marketers to help them work smart and stay productive?

The startup environment is very competitive and dynamic. One can be reasonably sure that every SEO hack or marketing strategy has a short shelf life. One has to be constantly on the lookout for new ideas to capture attention. The short advice is: Don’t get complacent. The best way to stay productive is by enjoying what you do; the best way to enjoy is by playing it like a game. The faster you learn the rules of the game and the smarter you get at handling them, the more satisfaction you will derive out of playing it.

A big thanks to Nithya for taking the time out to answer these questions! If you haven’t already, we highly recommend that you check out SupportBee.
