How Marketers Stay Productive: Deven Patel Of Cyfe

March 12, 2015

This week we feature Deven Patel , Founder of Cyfe. Cyfe is an all-in-one business dashboard app that helps you easily monitor all your business data from one place.

In this interview, you can read more about his work at Cyfe, favorite marketing tools, productivity tips as well as his advice for budding marketers.

Your location: Boston, MA.

Deven

Your favorite gadget: iPhone.

You start your day with: Check email.

Your favorite time-saving trick: Use Cyfe dashboards.

Your top 3 blogs you read daily: Would rather focus on business.

“Tracking marketing efforts and business performance in general is a must for any serious business.”

Describe an average day at Cyfe?

The average day at Cyfe is pretty hectic. As the Founder of a small company, I try and keep tabs on all the day to day operations. This means working on product, support, and marketing simultaneously. When new opportunities arise, I add them to our roadmap and/or calendar and we try to tackle them as quickly as possible. Every day brings different challenges but the end of the day always comes with a sense of deep satisfaction for a job well done.

As a Founder, what is your favorite productivity hack?

I try and focus on one thing primarily which is to make quick decisions. This applies to almost any type of work I’m doing. Whether it’s answering emails or deciding on which features to add to Cyfe. The faster I decide on something the quicker it gets off my plate which ultimately makes me more productive.

As a person who is well-versed with online marketing/ inbound, I’m sure you rely on a few marketing tools to automate your efforts. What are the top 3 tools you use?

1. Cyfe — I use our own business dashboard tool to keep tabs on everything from marketing to our technical infrastructure.

2. Gmail — I’ve tried all kinds of email clients in the past and the best one I found was Gmail. The best thing about it is the search bar. It’s fast and you can search through pretty much any kind of email.

3. WordPress — It really takes the hassle out of blogging and you don’t have to be tech savvy to use it.

Your company has a growing community of users. How do you use this treasure trove of customer insight to power your marketing efforts?

Our goal is to continue adding more and more value for our customers using all the feedback they provide. We simply log all the incoming feedback like feature requests, filter it to make sure it’s useful for our audience, and then implement it. It’s really that simple.

What is your strategy for getting people to your site and then converting them to a customer?

As you know, Cyfe is an all-in-one business dashboard app that helps you easily monitor all your business data from one place. Users can connect their social networks, websites, blogs, email accounts, and so much more to their dashboards. Since our service is very intuitive and valuable we didn’t have to do much marketing. Once users started using Cyfe they generally spread the word themselves. We did try to reach out to some popular blogs initially to see if they would write reviews about our service. Unless you’re selling to enterprises, inbound marketing works best.

Is there any advice you’d like to give to budding marketers to help them work smart and stay productive?

Monitor everything and move fast! Tracking marketing efforts and business performance in general is a must for any serious business. Business is a game with the goal of making money. How can you win at any game without keeping track of the score?

A big thanks to Deven for taking the time out to answer these questions! If you haven’t already, I highly recommend that you check out Cyfe.
